Due to the cold conditions in the state, the School Education Department in Madhya Pradesh has instructed a change in the school schedules for both government and private schools, considering the well-being of the students.
“In view of the outbreak of cold wave in the state, the School Education Department has changed the school timings till January 20.All schools operating in the morning shift will open from 10 AM,” writes the School Education Department, Madhya Pradesh on X (formerly Twitter).

All government and non-government schools which operate early in the morning will operate from 10:00 AM. Also, schools operating in two shifts will be operated from 10:00 AM. The notice further reads that all government schools that operate from 10:30 AM will operate as per the prescribed timetable.

Note: The examinations of Classes 6 to 12 will be conducted as per the scheduled timetable.
Several other states in North India have extended the winter vacations amid the coldwave conditions. The schools in Uttar Pradesh have been instructed to close till January 14, 2024.
Due to dry weather and decreasing temperatures, thick fog and rain have covered various regions of the country. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for ‘Cold Day’ to ‘Severe Cold Day’ conditions in specific areas. The weather experts predict that temperatures in the northern regions of the country will stay consistent from January 8 to 13, with no notable changes or warnings of a cold wave.

According to the forecast reports from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), fog and thick fog are expected to linger in the mornings across Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Odisha, and some parts of Bihar until January 10.
