Shooters, coaches reporting for Tokyo Olympic camp to quarantine for seven days; KSSR divided into four zones | More sports News

NEW DELHI: Ahead of the start of the national camp for core Olympic shooters at the Karni Singh Shooting Range (KSSR) here, the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) has formulated a quarantine process wherein shooters/coaches coming from outside the Delhi-NCR will be quarantined at the nearby hotel for the duration of seven days.
Also, shooters/coaches who reside in the Delhi-NCR would be required to quarantine/self-isolate at their place of stay for the seven-day quarantine period after which they will join other campers in the hotel for the entire duration of the camp. The NRAI will make boarding and lodging arrangements at a hotel nearby the venue, for which the Sports Authority of India (SAI) will provide support as per existing norms.
The NRAI and SAI have come up with a detailed Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the two-month long camp, from October 15 to December 17, wherein the two will jointly take the responsibility to ensure the camp goes ahead smoothly in a secure bio-bubble. From the hotel to the entry to the shooting range, it will be the responsibility of the NRAI to maintain the SOP in order to keep a secure bio-bubble. All the shooters and coaches will undergo a covid-19 test which will be conducted at the hotel and arranged by the NRAI, the SAI said in a media statement.
The KSSR premises has been divided into four zones – Green, Orange, Yellow and Red – to maintain the safety of shooters and coaches. The zoning of premises has been done by assessing the nature of risk category to minimise the contact between campers and range personnel. The responsibility of maintaining the SOPs will be shared by the NRAI and SAI.
“The safety norms set up through the SOPs issued by SAI are very thorough, this will be the first national camp that will be held since the nationwide lockdown was imposed in March and all steps are in place for the shooters to perform in a safe and comfortable environment,” NRAI secretary Rajiv Bhatia was quoted as saying in the SAI release.
Earlier, the NRAI had postponed the optional national camp, originally slated to be held from October 5, for 100-odd shooters due to the “administrative compulsions”. This was the second time in two months that the camp was postponed, the first being in August, when the NRAI had called it off in view of the pandemic. However, the SAI later had “principally approved” the camp for the core group of shooters that was formed keeping in mind the Tokyo Olympics.
The KSSR was thrown open to the athletes on July 8 by the SAI.
