Odisha: Over 100 fall sick after consuming lassi

More than 100 persons, including children, fell sick after consuming lassi (curd-made drink) at Kurti village in Malkangiri district of Odisha, an official said on Saturday.

More than 100 persons, including children, fell sick after consuming lassi (curd-made drink) at Kurti village in Malkangiri district of Odisha, an official said on Saturday.

The incident was reported on Friday when villagers visited a weekly shop and consumed lassi to beat the scorching heat. However, after returning home, most of them complained of severe stomach ache and started vomiting.

Those critical were shifted to a nearby hospital. Later, 70 more people were also admitted to the hospital.

Malkangiri CDMO Prafulla Kumar Nanda said that he has sent a medical team to the village to inspect. Nanda also visited the village to review the situation.

Various medical teams reached the spot to conduct an investigation to ascertain the cause of the incident.

The doctor treating the patients said the condition of most of the villagers was stable.
