Veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah has condemned some sections of the Muslim community in the country who he said are celebrating “Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan”. “Even as the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan is a cause of concern for the whole world, celebrations of the barbarians by some sections of Indian Muslims is no less dangerous,” Mr Shah said in a video message shared on social media.

The actor said those who are rejoicing the revival of Taliban should question themselves if “they want to reform their religion or live with the old barbarism”.
Mr Shah, drawing a distinction between “Hindustani Islam” and the practice of the faith in other parts of the world, further said that Islam in India has always been different from Islam around the world and “may God not bring the time that it changes so much that we cannot even recognise it”.
The Taliban was overthrown two decades ago by US-led forces for hosting the al Qaeda militants who masterminded the September 11, 2001 attacks on the United States.
After capturing control of the country earlier in August, the group said they will respect human rights and will not allow terrorists to operate from the country.
The Taliban is yet to name a new government or reveal how they intend to rule.
