Mudumalai’s killer tiger captured | Chennai News

UDHAGAMANDALAM: A tiger that killed three people and around 10 cattle in the Nilgiris district of Tamil Nadu in the past two and a half months was captured on Friday after 21 days of the search operations.
MDT-23 (Mudumalai Division Tiger -23) was captured from deep inside reserve forests in the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve (MTR).
According to a forest official, the tiger was expected to cross the Theppakadu-Masinagudi road Thursday night as per its movements captured in camera traps located inside the Masinagudi and Singara forest ranges in the MTR buffer zone. The operation teams, comprising 30 personnel, were deputed to monitor the movement of the tiger in that area.
“The tiger showed signs of its presence in that area late at night but did not emerge,” said a forest official.
On Friday morning, when the tiger crossed the Masinagudi Road, operation teams comprising forest veterinarians fired at least four darts. One of them hit it. However, the tiger escaped and went into bushes. It took nearly five hours for the teams to locate the tiger. The big cat was tranquilized again and captured around 2pm.
