The school education department has received several complaints during the pandemic period in the last eight to ten months such as school management forcing parents for fees. Also several complaints were like students getting removed from WhatsApp group for online education who did not pay their fees, failing to issue their report card of the last term examination, being fined for late fees, etc.
Taking note of the complaints, the minister directed education officers of the respective divisions to conduct an inquiry and take appropriate action against the schools.
Minister also asked the department to set up fees regulation committees at state and division level, where parents can register their complaints related to fees. Gaikwad also asked to take action under the Right to Education (RTE) against illegal schools.
After appeals from parents, the education department in May 2020 appointed 87 nodal officers in 36 districts to receive fee related complaints during the Covid-19 lock down. The department had continued to receive several complaints even after the circulars issued to schools that asked them not to force parents to pay during the lock down or hike fees this year.
