By India Today Sports Desk: RCB captain Smriti Mandhana said she was happy for the franchise’s fan base after their first win of the WPL 2023 season against the UP Warriorz on Wednesday.

RCB were finally able to get off the mark after the bowlers put on a solid performance to wreck the UPW top order in the first few overs of the match.

The UPW innings came to an end at 135 runs. Needing 136 to win, Mandhana and Devine fell early and they were reduced to 60 for four in the ninth over.

Kanika Ahuja then played a top knock of 46 from 30 deliveries to get the team closer to the win. Richa Ghosh also contributed as RCB won by five wickets in the end and kept their playoff hopes alive.

Speaking after the match, as quoted by Cricbuzz, Mandhana said that the chase was a bit tense at the beginning as they lost a few wickets towards the seventh over.

The RCB captain then praised Kanika and Richa and went on to heap praise on the 20-year-old for her innings. Mandhana said she was excited to see Kanika bat and hailed her as a 360 degree player.

The opener had a special word of appreciation for the fan base and thanked them for turning up for the team, despite losing the first five games.

“Yeah, it was tense. We lost a couple of wickets in the 7th over, it was a bit nervous. But the way Kanika and Richa played was brilliant. Kanika in particular, really proud of her. Really excited to see her bat, the approach she has. She is a 360 degree player, who isn’t the most common in Indian cricket. Really impressed with her and the belief she has. Even when we have not been in great positions, the crowd keep chanting for us. Really happy for this loyal support base, not a lot of teams will have supporters turn up in such high numbers after losing five games,” said Mandhana.
