By Rajesh Saha: Suvendu Adhikari is involved in the Bengal teachers’ recruitment scam and should be taken into custody, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) said today.

Amid the ongoing investigation into an alleged recruitment scam, Bengal’s ruling party alleged that the Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari was directly involved in the case and demanded his custodial investigation to make the probe impartial.

On Friday, the Calcutta High Court ordered the termination of appointments of 842 candidates who secured employment in state-run schools illegally.

Today, the TMC’s chief spokesperson, Kunal Ghosh, held a press conference and said, “55 people, recommended by Suvendu Adhikari, have been terminated from their government jobs. These candidates are among the 842 candidates who were dismissed from state-run schools following the court order.”

“The All India Trinamool Congress is of the belief that Suvendu Adhikari was involved in the teachers’ recruitment process,” Ghosh said.

“If the number – 55 people – is that much on a single list, then how many people has he employed in total?” Ghosh asked, seeking Adhikari’s custodial probe.

“All those 55 people should be brought under investigation, including Adhikari. There is one Sanjib Sukul on the termination list. His serial number is 569. Sukul is Adhikari’s right-hand man. If central agencies like the CBI and the ED are probing the alleged teachers’ recruitment scam, why are these lists being omitted? Why should Suvendu Adhikari not be arrested for providing jobs to these 55 people illegally?” he asked.

Claiming that Suvendu Adhikari, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s once close aide, only joined the BJP to get the cases against him dropped, Ghosh said: “Suvendu is an accused in the Sarada chit fund case. An FIR named him as an accused in the Narada scam. He joined the BJP only to save himself from the central agencies.”
