BHUBANESWAR: The health and family welfare department on Wednesday urged the higher education department for issuing of necessary instructions to the universities for publication of results of final MBBS and BDS exams before March 31 after completion of the examinations.
The health department in a letter issued on Wednesday said early result publication can help students to start their internship before March 31 and they become eligible for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) in the next year after completing the internship in time.
It has been made mandatory by the Supreme Court and the national medical council (NMC) that all MBBS and BDS admission are taken through a common entrance test called NEET. In order to become eligible in the NEET, the cut-off date for completing the internship is usually fixed to March 31 of the admission year.
“But it is observed that when the final MBBS/BDS examination and publication of results are delayed, the students are not able to complete the one year internship before March 31 in the said year for which they become ineligible to appear in the NEET and lose one year,” said health department secretary Shalini Pandit in the letter.
