‘Thunivu’ featuring Ajith had its grand theatrical release yesterday (Jan 11) and the film locked horns with Vijay’s ‘Varisu’ at the box office. Both films received a packed opening, while Ajith’s film occupied slightly more screens in Tamil Nadu. ‘Thunivu’ has earned over Rs 17.5 crores in Tamil Nadu, and the film leads Vijay’s film in the state by within a crore. The biggest battle between the two Tamil heroes has been so close as Vijay’s film took a lead at the worldwide box office.
‘Thunivu’ has reportedly earned Rs 24 crores in the Indian market, while the worldwide collection of the film is said to be around Rs 30 crores on day 1. The reservations for ‘Thunivu’ have been strong with positive reviews on day 1 and the film is constructed to develop tall at the box office. Both ‘Thunivu’ and ‘Varisu’ will be moving up and down in the box office battle in the upcoming days, and it’s going to be a tough one to decide the winner among both.
