India vs Australia, 1st T20I: Interesting Mohali statistical trivia | Cricket News

It’s time for India’s last two T20I series before the T20 World Cup kicks-off in Australia in October. India are hosting Australia for 3 T20Is followed by South Africa against whom the Men in Blue will once again play 3 T20Is as preparation for the next edition of the World Cup of the shortest format of the sport.
The first India vs Australia T20I will be played on Tuesday in Mohali.

Ahead of the opening encounter between the 2007 T20 World Cup champions and the reigning T2O champions of the world, here is a look at some very interesting statistical trivia about T20Is played in Mohali:
# Five T20Is have been played at Punjab Cricket Association’s IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali between 2009 and 2019.
# Three of those matches have been won by the sides batting second and two by the sides batting first.
# India have registered victories in all three T20Is played by them at Mohali – by six wickets vs Sri Lanka on December 12, 2009; by six wickets vs Australia on March 27, 2016 and by 7 wickets vs South Africa on September 18, 2019.
# Besides India’s three wins, Pakistan lost both the matches played by them at this venue – by 22 runs to New Zealand on March 22, 2016 and by 21 runs to Australia on March 25, 2016 – both in the T20 World Cup.
# The highest individual innings in T20Is at this venue – an unbeaten innings of 82 off 51 balls – belongs to India’s Virat Kohli against Australia on March 27, 2016.
# Kohli had scored another fifty at this venue – 72 not out off 52 balls vs South Africa on September 18, 2019.
# Kohli, with 154 runs in two innings without being dismissed at a strike rate of 149.51, is the top run-scorer in T20Is at this venue.
# The only instance of an Indian all-rounder posting a fifty and capturing three wickets in the same T20I in India was accomplished by Yuvraj Singh (3/23 + 60 not out) vs Sri Lanka at Mohali on December 12, 2009.
# James Faulkner’s excellent figures of five for 27 vs Pakistan at Mohali on March 25, 2016 are his career-best figures in T20Is – the only five-wicket haul at this venue apart from being the only instance of five wickets in a T20I by an Australian bowler.
# Two eighty-plus runs stands have been recorded at this venue – 81 (second wicket) between Sanath Jayasuriya and Kumar Sangakkara for Sri Lanka vs India on December 12, 2009 and 80 (third) between Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh for India vs Sri Lanka in the same match.
# Shane Watson’s figures of 2 for 23 on March 27, 2016 at Mohali are the best by any bowler in a T20I against India.
# Yuvraj Singh’s excellent performance of 3 for 23 against Sri Lanka at Mohali on December 12, 2009 is the best by an Indian bowler against any opponent at this venue.
# Sanath Jayasuriya and Kumar Sangakkara were associated in a stand of 81 for the second wicket for Sri Lanka against India on December 12, 2009 – the highest partnership by any pair for any wicket at this venue.
# Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh had put on 80 runs for the third wicket against Sri Lanka on December 12, 2009 – the highest for India against any opponent for any wicket at this venue.
# Australia’s James Faulkner, with six wickets at 10.33 runs apiece in two matches, is the leading wicket-taker at this venue.
# Yuvraj Singh, with four wickets at 10.50 in two matches is the top wicket-taker for India at this venue.
