BS Yediyurappa said that he was fine but had been hospitalised on the advice of doctors.

Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa today tweeted to say that he had tested positive for the novel coronavirus. In a brief post on Twitter, Mr Yediyurappa said that he was fine but had been hospitalised on the advice of doctors. This is the second time that the 78-year-old BJP leader contracted the virus.

“Upon having mild fever, today I got tested for Covid-19 and my report has come out positive. Although I am doing fine, I am being hospitalised based on the advice of doctors. I request all those who have come in my contact recently to be observant and exercise self-quarantine,” the Chief Minister’s tweet read.

The announcement came few hours after Mr Yediyurappa chaired an emergency meeting with Health Minister K Sudhakar and top officials to discuss the Covid situation in the state.

“We have discussed the report from experts, the curfew that is in place between 10 pm to 5 am at some district centres will continue and we are thinking about in which other districts it needs to be extended. No other decision has been taken today,” Mr Yediyurappa said during an interaction with reporters.

Last year, Mr Yediyurappa was admitted to Manipal Hospital after he along with his daughter Padmavathi tested positive.

Karnataka on Thursday reported its biggest single day spike of 14,738 new cases of COVID-19, and 66 deaths, taking the number of infections to 11,09,650 and number of fatalities to 13,112. Of the fresh cases, 10,497 were from Bengaluru Urban alone. Total number of active cases stood at 96,561.
