Yogesh Raj, the main accused in the Bulandshahr violence of 2018 in which a policeman was killed, has won the Uttar Pradesh panchayat election.
In 2018, Inspector Subodh Kumar Singh was killed in the violence in Syana village area of Bulandshahr on suspicion of alleged cow slaughter. Yogesh Raj was arrested in the case.
Yogesh, the main accused in the Bulandshahr violence, was a candidate from ward number 5 for the post of district panchayat member. He defeated his rival Independent candidate Nirdosh Chaudhary by 2,150 votes. Yogesh got 10,352 of the 27,763 votes polled whereas Nirdosh Chaudhary secured 8,269 votes.
An officer of the Bulandshahr administration said, “Yogesh contested from ward number 5 for the panchayat elections. Five more candidates were in the fray. Yogesh has won the election of district panchayat member after defeating everyone. The official said that the counting of panchayat elections has ended, but the winners’ certificate is yet to be delivered.”
After his victory, Yogesh thanked the people of Syana for electing him and said he will continue to work for social causes, includes empowering the disabled, widows and farmers with his political will. He then added that he wishes to contest the Lok sabha polls.
In December 2018, Inspector Subodh Kumar Singh was killed in the violence that engulfed Bulandshahr on suspicion of alleged cow slaughter.
Yogesh Raj, District Convenor of Bajrang Dal, was the main accused and was blamed for inciting violence. Inspector Subodh Kumar Singh, who was killed during the incident, tried to convince him but he did not agree and was found involved in instigating the violence.
According to the FIR in the Bulandshahr violence case, Yogesh Raj had serious allegations against him along with his friends.
Yogesh Raj was arrested in January 2019 about a month after the violence and is currently out on bail and contested the panchayat polls.
